Description: Antique 19th century French Faience Sarreguemines Utzsneider Medallion Pattern large pitcher and wash bowl, brown transferware aesthetic floral and military head diamond shaped medallions. Given one of Utzsneider's best customers was Napoleon III maybe some connection there as the heads on this pitcher & bowl are strikingly similar to photos I found of him in battle wearing similar hats/ helmets and the timeline of the aesthetic style florals and his reign from 1852-1870. Although unmarked with the exception of the word Medallion in block letters of which I have also seen used within known Utzsneider backstamps I believe the provenance speaks for itself. It is not without it's own battle scars and rightly so it is over 150 years old ! Shows crazing and toning, there is a crack in the rim of the pitcher as shown, a chip on the rim of the bowl as shown and some cracking in the bottom of the wash bowl basin as shown. These items were made to be used not simply show pieces therefore it is not out of character that they would show the signs of age and use. This set is still a wonderful rare display piece. All items sold " as is" " as pictured". Please ask any and all questions or request additional photos prior to bidding as I do not accept returns refunds on antique, vintage, used items. Any and all claims for shipping damages are to be made by buyer thru appropriate shipping carrier not thru myself or Ebay.
