Description: This lot includes a Forgan "MAXMO" putter. This particular model of putter is listed in many golf collectible books. The putter has a concave face that puts a beautiful roll on your putts when stuck squarely. This putter is made of "Forganite" which was trademarked material used by the Forgans in some of their woods and putters. The procedure used to create Forganite was intended to make them impervious to moisture and resistant to heat and cold, much like waterproofing and sealing of your deck. The process used oils and waxes to infuse the wood which also made the heads a bit heavier so that lead weighting was not necessary. It also enhances the look of the grain on the putters, giving them a beautiful look. This putter would be considered a "mallet" style putter and they are both rare and desirable, in addition to being great putting instruments. This putter has been refinished. The brass sole plates have been removed and epoxied back on. This provides a very solid feel when the club makes contact with the ball. The head has had 7, hand rubbed coats of True Oil applied to provide a hard, protective finish that has warm satin glow that will get even more beautiful with use. I have left the original grip on this putter because it was still in very good condition and feels great in the hands. This putter also has a very clear "Forgan" shaft stamping which is always nice and proof that it is original. Many would say that the putter is the most important club in the bag since it is usually responsible for the largest number of strokes on any scorecard. While having a quality putter is essential in any bag, finding quality mallet style putters of this quality from the hickory era is getting harder all the time as the popularity of hickory golf continues to grow.
