Description: Antique Chinese Happy Buddha (Budai) Porcelain Statue with Zhu Maosheng Mark This antique / vintage statue was purchased by my grandfather during a visit to China in the early 1900s.Statue is approx. 20 cm (8") tall and weighs approx. 944 g (2.1 lbs).Research indicates this statue was likely produced during the Republic Period (1912-1949) and represents the "Budai Heshang" or "Cloth Sack Monk". Also called the "Happy Buddha" - an avatar of the Bodhisattva or Mortal Buddha Maitreya.The artist / maker's mark impression is clearly evident on the bottom of the statue as shown in the photos.The mark translates to "Zhu Maosheng" who produced many porcelain statues / figurines during the Republic Period.
