Description: This is an exemplary cameo brooch from that distant era when these hand crafted items were very in vogue. The item is showing signs of age, especially the back (see photos). I have declined cleaning the piece as I am trying to retain the natural aged look of the piece. Any cleaning will be up to the buyer. PLEASE NOTE the item is being sold AS IS and the information below may not be 100 percent accurate. It is accurate to the best of my knowledge, but if you are buying this it is not based on the Karat value or weight of gold because I have no way to fully verify. I took the item to a jeweler and gold buyer. She said the metal rim or border is 14k gold. I have no way to verify this but I have no reason to doubt it. She made me an offer based on the gold content (melt value). I weighted the item on my calibrated jeweler's scale and it weighs 7.77 grams. Of course it would be nearly impossible to figure out which portion of that is the gold rim or the cameo itself. But of course gold by volume is quite heavier than shell. There is quarter in the picture for sizing purposes. To the best of my measuring capability, the dimensions are:1-7/8" x 1-3/8" x 3/8" So if you are buying this, you are buying it without certainty of the gold Karat or gold content or weight. I am selling the item shown in the picture as an item AS IS, since I could easily have it melted down if I only wanted the gold value.
