Antique British Martini-Henry rifle P1876 socket bayonets with scabbards

Description: Original Items bought by my father for our collection over 45 years ago. I am down sizing my collections now so hoping to find a good new home for them. Conditions are good overall. Moderate oxidization on the blades. The leather scabbards are fair and have age appropriate deterioration. Blade length is 21.75" from base to tip. Muzzle side hole for rifle barrel measures approximately 16.5 mm. Possibly used in the 'British Empire — The Anglo-Zulu War Conflict'. PLEASE NOTE !! OR BE VERY CLOSE, BUT DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH IF YOU ARE NOT SURE AND COMMIT TO PURCHASE !! The Pattern 1876 Socket Bayonet is an improved and redesigned Pattern 1853. It was the opinion of many that the Pattern 1853 was too short to make an effective fighting weapon when attached to the rifle. As a result, the Pattern 1876 was lengthened nearly five inches. The cross sectional shape of the 1876 was made equiangular, rather than being wider on the top as was the 1853. Also, since this bayonet was only to be used with breech loading arms, the outward curve was omitted. This bayonet was also referred to as the "Long Common Socket Bayonet". Many of these were later converted for use on .303 Caliber Martinis by cutting down and bushing the socket. The sockets were bored, reslotted and a new locking ring, stop and screw installed. After conversion, these bayonets hung below the rifle, instead of to the side. Converted 1876s are sometimes referred to as the 1896 Pattern, but the correct designation is "Bayonet, Martini-Enfield, Triangular". Genuine British manufactured bayonet comes with locking ring and brass mounted leather scabbard. Markings vary but all bayonets will bear British makers and dates. The original leather scabbard will be Nepalese made. These scabbards are very similar to the British made ones, but they do not have internal leaf springs or British markings. Expect the fit of the scabbards to be a bit tight typically half an inch short due to leather shrinkage. All scabbard will have minor imperfections or seam splits. This bayonet fits British Martini-Henry MkI, MkII, and MkIII rifles with rectangular front sights. Will also fit early MkIV rifles without the "ramp" front sight.
