Description: A beautiful mirrored pair of Aesthetic Movement stoneware vases decorated in the Japanese taste. Gilt enhanced polychrome birds, butterflies and floral decor. The vases are unmarked with the exception of a retailer’s paper sticker. The vases were retailed by one the most prominent 19thcentury Chicago retailers, Burley & Tyrrell. The paper label on the vases locates the retailer at 83 & 85 State Street, Chicago. Burley & Tyrrell occupied these premises from 1875 until1888.
