Description: DATING TO THE 1930’S ACQUIRED IN ITALY, THIS DRESS WAS WORN AT CARNIVAL IN THE 1930’S. THE GOWN IS FASHIONED OF A PURPLE RAYON GAUZE FABRIC AND THE TOP IS SCALLOPED AT THE NECKLINE EDGE AND IS FULLY COVERED IN A BEAUTIFUL GOLD LAME LACE WITH ONE SLEEVE HAVING FOUR LAYERS OF GRADUATING RUFFLES THAT ARE EDGED IN SILK FLOSS AND GOLD LAME WOVEN BRAID WITH THE END IN A LARGE DRAPING BELL. THE OPPOSITE SIDE HAS A NARROW SHOULDER STRAP WITH THE SKIRTING IN A BASE OF COTTON GAUZE THAT IS COVERED IN PURPLE RUFFLES WITH THE MATCHING GOLD BRAIDING WITH A LONG ROUNDED REAR TAIL. CLOSES IN THE REAR WITH HOOK AND EYES WITH THE INNER TOP LINED IN COTTON. CONDITION: THE EYES HAVE RUST STAINING WITH THE STAINS UNSEEN WHEN WORN. INNER LINING SHOWS SPOTTED DISCOLORATION. THE COTTON AT THE TWO TOP EYES IS LOOSE AND NEEDS TO BE STITCHED BACK. THERE ARE SOME SPOTS OF DISCOLORATION ON THE RUFFLES, MOST OF WHICH NEED TO BE HUNTED FOR AND I HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THIS DRESS. A FOUR INCH RUFFLE NEEDS TO BE STITCHED BACK INTO PLACE.
