Description: This dress has a combination of hand stitching and machine stitching.Long sleeves, ruffled hemline, hook and eye front closure, shirring and fullness in the shoulders, and the bodice and throughout the body of the dress. Perhaps it was made as a sort of maternity dress.Larger kind of a Puritan collar. One pocket on the right side front.When looking at it from the inside, there appears to be a bit of almost couture seaming. The bodice was lined, too. Perhaps this was "remade" to adjust to wear over a few different decades. Could be older than 1890 and adjusted through a generation.Also, at some point, a rope was added to the inside, attached with safety pins to the side seam selvedges. See photos for the damage and fading. Floral print on a greenish tan ground. All cotton fabric. This is shown on a dress form that is pretty much a modern day size 6. Great for a museum display, I would NOT try to wear this. Just for preservation and archiving. This came from an artists estate, she collected a lot of her findings when she lived in California in 1969-1971. Please ask any questions!
