The letter reads: Agreeable to request I spoke to Mr A E Sample about your claim against E B Rogers. He says that he collected $50 on the note and indulged him in a little time on the balance for if he had of sent it he could not of gained in time. When I spoke to him he was on the way to get the whole which he will remit in a few days. Sidney Kirtland's obituary says he was a born in Saybrook, Connecticut; came south age 16; spent a few years in Macon, Georgia; and then went to Montgomery, Alabama.He died in Montgomery in 1893.
