Its main peak is 2,409 feet (734 m) high. The area is well known for expansive views from Route 9. Hogback Mountain Ski Area was located across Route 9 on Mount Olga and relied exclusively on T-bars for ascent. It operated from 1946 to 1986, using only natural snow, and blamed the cost of insurance for causing it to close. Countless local children learned to ski at the ski area, especially because free skiing was offered weekly to students from the nearby Marlboro School for years. Roughly 590 acres (2.4 km2) was purchased and given to the town of Marlboro as conservation land, known as Hogback Mountain Conservation Area. Some of the old ski lifts remain on the property, along with various buildings, including a fire lookout tower. Trails are semi-clear, as volunteers continue to keep some open and available to cross country skiers, backcountry skiers, hikers, and snowshoers................ Brattleboro, originally Brattleborough, is a town in Windham County, Vermont, United States, located about 10 miles (16 km) north of the Massachusetts state line at the confluence of Vermont's West River and the Connecticut River. With a 2022 Census population of 12,106, it is the most populous municipality abutting Vermont's eastern border with New Hampshire, which is the Connecticut River. The town has been important to the history of Vermont, acting as a gateway for trade on both the Connecticut River and subsequent road and train infrastructure. Moreover the Whetstone Brook allowed the development of several mill industries that relied on water power. The town rose to national and international recognition because of several major industries in the town during the 19th century: several bookbinding companies, including Brattleboro Typographic Company which produced bibles, and Estey Organ, one of the largest manufacturers of pipe organs in the world. Both industries shrank in the early 20th century, relying more on its role as a economic hub for more rural communities and Vermont's tourism industry................ Marlboro is a town in Windham County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,722 at the 2020 census. The town is home to both the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum and Potash Hill, the campus that was formerly Marlboro College. Potash Hill hosts the Marlboro Music School and Festival each summer, as well as other arts and education programs throughout the year................ 1961 ALPENGLO-House, Hogback Mountain, Brattleboro, Windham County VT Postcard Posted VTG Vintage
