This publication closely followed the 1953 First UK edition in book form (an abridged serialisation having appeared in John Bull Magazine earlier in 1953.) While the "The Thriller Book Club” was used to publish three Agatha Christie titles, with this title in 1954 Foyles discontinued the use of that imprint and started publishing all the Christie books as part of their mainstream “The Book Club”, a catch-all for popular fiction titles. In After the Funeral a healthy inheritance casts suspicion on the family, but as ever, nothing is quite as it seems. The story was first published in the US, titled Funerals are Fatal, two months before it was published in the UK. Adapted for film in 1963, titled Murder at the Gallop, Poirot was replaced with Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple. More faithful adaptations have since been made: in 2005 the story was adapted for BBC Radio 4 with a full cast (John Moffatt was Poirot) and in 2006, the story became an episode in the long-running TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot, with David Suchet in the lead role. Condition: A Very Good book, tightly bound with clean unmarked pages but some heavy foxing to all page borders; bright yellow boards lightly marked. Intact dustjacket is ragged at edges, particular along top edge (see photos).
