Description: In the manner of Claude Monet, Houses of Parliament, Sunset through Cloud and Fog. Oil on canvas, sight 37 ½ x 30 ½; framed 41 ½ x 34 ½, signed S. Brady. In a moulded giltwood frame. Likely 3rd quarter of the 20th century. Mild soiling and accumulation of dust to canvas. The present painting is not an exact copy of any one Monet painting, but is rather in the manner of the series of some 19 paintings of the Palace of Westminster that Monet painted from the south bank of the Thames in 1900–1901 (some are dated later, due to Monet’s habit at this point of revising and retouching his painting in his studio at Giverny). Most similar in terms of colour palate and position of the sun in the west are versions in the Kunsthaus Zurich (coucher de soleil), and the Musée d’Orsay (trouée de soleil dans le brouillard). A respectable and large after Monet. https://www.musee-orsay.fr/fr/oeuvres/londres-le-parlement-trouee-de-soleil-dans-le-brouillard-1177 https://collection.kunsthaus.ch/en/collection/item/2585/
