Description: SSIZE: SMALLARTIST: RACKINOS CHINGWAROThis lovely little head is hand-carved from a single piece of FRUIT SERPENTINE by 3rd Generation SHONA artist, RACKINOS CHINGWARO.'I was born in February 1th 1980 in Mukaera in the northern parts of Zimbabwe. I come from a family that both among the Sculptors in the Guruve region and in the religious Community of Mukaera enjoys a high reputation. I began sculpting at the age of 12 years i really just wanted to be a football player (Soccer) and Sculpting was just a pass time, when my father fell ill i had to sculpt in order to support our family. In 1994 i joined Tengenenge, gave workshops and was soon one of the Sculptors of the Art Village, which could earn a living alone with sculptures. When after the turn of the Century the ownership and the responsibilities we're apaque in Tengenenge, i went back to Mukaera before joining Chitungwiza arts Centre. I describe my self as a religious reserved almost a shy man, this also reflected in work.'Shona sculpture is an art form passed down through generations.
