Abercrombie & Fitch introduced A&F Quarterly as a marketing tool and released its first Quarterly in the fall of 1997. The publication was dubbed a "magalog" - as it served as both a magazine and a catalog for the A&F brand. The main audience the publication wanted to reach were collegiate youths. A&F collaborated with prominent figures in the fashion marketing world to produce the publication: Savas Abadsidis, Sam Shahid, and Bruce Weber (Shahid was notable for his Brooke Shields' "Nothing comes between me and my Calvins" Calvin Klein campaign). For the Quarterly, Abadsidis served as editor-in-chief, Shahid as creative director, and Weber as exclusive photographer. A&F Quarterly quickly became popular, and subsequent publications were released on a quarterly basis, one for each Abercrombie & Fitch fashion season ("Spring Break", "Summer", "Back-to-School", and "Christmas").
