Notes Long-listed for the National Book Award, this character-rich debut follows three generations facing similar but different adversities across a timeline of New Orleans life spanning from World War Two to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Racial disparity, drug use and a sense of place are interrogated over the course of what has been described in the New York Times as a luminous and remarkably assured first novel.
