Description: 4WD shift gate for an NP231 transfer case on a ZJ (93-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee). Hard to find. They just didn’t put that many NP231’s in ZJ’s, so it’s a rare-ish part. For those doing a 249 to 231 transfer case swap, the 249 and 231 shift gates are different. The 231 shifter gate has a detent about 2/3 of the way down, the 249 does not have a detent at all. This 231 gate will prevent accidental shifting into N or 4LO because of the detent in the gate. It will make it just like a factory 231. Includes the NP231 shift gate, four mounting screws, cotter pin and the required OE spring. Note: The included 231 spring is different than the spring that comes on the 249 4WD shifter handle. It's a mirror image of the 249 spring. It holds the 4WD shift lever to the left (driver's side) instead of the right. The spring and gate detent keep the 4WD shift lever from inadvertently going past the detent to N or 4LO, without intentionally moving the 4WD shift lever to the right (past the detent) as you move it rearwards.
