Synonyms: Koellia flexuosa An aromatic, summer blooming, herbaceous perennial that produces large purple globular flowers on sturdy, upright stems. Blooming over a long period, flowers are prominently displayed above clean green foliage from summer into fall. It is clump-forming and spreads slowly via underground runners - it won't take over the garden like other mints! Height - 3 - 5 Feet Spread - 3 - 4 Feet Spacing - 12 Inches USDA Hardiness Zone 6 - 9 Medicinal use of Mountain Mint: The leaves and flowering stems are popularly used in the treatment of bowel complaints. A hot infusion of the plant is diaphoretic. The plant is also used internally in the treatment of stomach upsets, fevers, colds and sinus headaches. A poultice of the leaves is used in the treatment of headaches. A warm infusion of the plant has been used to bathe an inflamed penis.
