Description: 25th North Carolina Infantry Highland Guards 3x5 Flag 25th North Carolina Infantry Highland Guards 3x5 Flag Company G of the 25th North Carolina Infantry Regiment Battle Flag Company G also known as the Highland Guards was raised in Clay and Macon counties North Carolina. The company was mustered into service in Franklin NC on July 8th, 1861, and was attached to the 25th NC Infantry, formerly the 15th Volunteers. Captains William S. Grady, John R. Hayes, and John M. Phinizy served as company Gs leaders. Attached to the Army of Northern Virginia under the command of Brigadier General Robert Ranson Jr., known as Ransoms Brigade, the 25th NC participated in several major campaigns including The Seven Days Battles where they sustained 128 casualties. Fredricksburg where 87 men were lost and also suffered a loss of 103 at Plymouth. Many were also lost at Saylers Creek and during the Appomattox Campaign just to name a few. When The 25th North Carolina Infantry surrendered to Union forces at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9th,1865, there were only 8 officers and 69 enlisted men left fit for duty. None of the 25th NC company flags or the regiment flag were ever captured or lost during the war and when General Rober E. Lee gave the order to surrender at Appomattox Courthouse all of the company flags as well as the regimental flag were concealed and smuggled home rather than surrendering them to Union troops. Because of this all but one of the flags have since been lost except for the flag of Company H which is housed at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh, NC. It is known that the company G Highland Guards flag was fashioned after the 1st National flag with the motto In God We Trust Victory or Death inscribed in a circular pattern around a single gold wreathed star within the blue field while 25th NC and Highland Guards both appeared on the white and red bars. This is a reproduction of the Highland Guards Company flag and has a vintage/aged finish. The actual dimensions are not exactly the same as the original flag. The artwork is visible on both sides. The lettering reads right on one side only. One solid piece of printed, hemmed fabric Lightweight, 100-denier polyester that will fly nicely in the slightest breeze.
