General Coin Information The 2011 Glacier Silver Bullion Coin is the second strike released by the US Mint in 2011 as part of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. It honors Glacier National Park found in the state of Montana. Glacier National Park was established on May 11, 1910 and consists of over 1 million acres. Its rugged scenery is enjoyed by an estimated 2 million annual visitors, most of whom see the sites of the park along the 53 mile Going-to-the-Sun Road which bisects the park linking the east side to the west side. Obverse Design The inscriptions of "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," " LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" should be found on the obverse along with a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. This image was originally designed by John Flanagan and first used on the circulating quarter dollar in 1932. Reverse Design A mountain goat is seen on the reverse of the Glacier Coin with majestic Mount Reynolds shown off in the distance. Also included the inscriptions of "GLACIER," "MONTANA," "2011" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." It was designed by AIP Associate Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Charles Vickers.
