The Giganteum P. somniferum poppy is prized for the amount of seed produced by individual pods set upon gorgeous multi-colored double-petaled flowers. This Poppy variety grows to a height of 36-48 inches, produces gorgeous multi-color blooms in various shades of Red, Pink and Purple and creates huge, round seed pods. Growing Poppies: Select a sunny spot with well draining, sandy type soil. Scatter seeds and very gently rake to distribute. Cover with no more than 1/16" of soil. Mist the soil whenever it appears dry. Germination occurs in 7-20 days. Reduce frequency of irrigation once poppies reach 2-3” high as they do not like damp growing conditions. Do not plant in hot weather. These seeds DO NOT like to germinate in Mid-Summer like weather, the best planting times being Fall-thru-late Spring. Poppies do not do well as transplants.
