Description: VTG Erzgebirge GDR Miniature Carved Deer Figures:8-point Buck & Grazing Doe, separate carvings Wooden animals play a big part in the collectable Erzgebirge folk art carved at the legendary Emil Helbig Workshop in the German Democratic Republic, many years before the reunification of Germany. These individually created animals, a buck and a doe, are unpainted and larger than some of the other miniatures, allowing you to take a closeup look at the craftsmanship that goes into carving these animals, such as the magnificent antlers on the male. The buck is 2” long and 3.5” high, while the resting doe is 2.25” in length and 1.5” tall. Whether or not you collect Erzgebirge miniatures, these carved animals would make a nice addition to a shadow box or display case. Given their lack of a base, these animals do not have GDR stickers, but the quality of the carvings speaks for itself as being made at the Helbig Workshop -- plus, I knew their original owner who added to her miniature folk art collection from the Erzgebirge workshop each year throughout the ‘60s to the late ‘70s.
