Description: ******* WE ARE BACK. The pinecone season has just begin in the Mountains. The trees have only just begun to drop some new cones but they are loaded up with some very nice cones. I will continue to update the cone sizes and inventory as we collect more but the first ones are indeed here. I do not have a lot of Jumbos yet but will update when I do. Looking forward to getting started on the '22 Cone season. ******************* This auction is for 2 Medium Cones (11-14") (will ship together as a pair). Please note that even medium sized cones from sugar pines are still quite large when compared to any other cone. Ebay does not give a ton of flexibilty on how to create multiples or variety packs so if you would like to make a larger order or select from my other sizes below. The Sugar Pine - (Pinus lambertiana) is the tallest and most massive pine tree on the planet, and has the longest cones of any conifer. These trees are simply immense and their cones are absurdly large if you have not seen them before. Their natural range is very limited to mainly the Sierra and Cascade Mountain Ranges in Northern California and Southern Oregon. These cones are all harvested on private property in the Lake Tahoe area. Additionally I dry all of my cones in the oven to both set the pitch and to kill any bugs that may have inhabited the cones. We also use air and or brushes to clean the cones. Cones will each be different and unique but I only harvest newly fallen, non squirrel damaged cones, not the old crop (snowed on) year old cones that have turned gray. Cones may have some very slight damage as they do fall great distances but I do my best to only grab very intact cones with great color. The cones are excellent for wreath making, door swags, living room basket décor, holiday centerpieces and even for use as a miniature Christmas tree. (see pics) My clients send me new photos every year of some of their awesome creations. I also try to put an extra of another species of cone in the box where they will fit, either from a Hemlock, jeffrey, or white pine as pictured. These are free and allow you to compare the mighty size of the sugar pine to other cones. I seek out cones of medium size all the way to absurdly large. Please note that there is usually limited stock of the jumbo sized cones and I do run out at times as there are very few trees that produce these sized cones and even fewer yet make it to the ground with no damage. I seek out thousands of cones and maybe 8 -10 make the jumbo size. They are as rare as hens teeth. Sizes : Small: 8-11" Perfect size for hanging in the Christmas tree Medium: 11-14"(featured in this auctions): This is a typical cone of most sugarpine cones in our area (Sierra Nevada Mountains) Large: 14-17" These are well above average cone sizes for our area and harder to find.Jumbo: 17-20+ Exceedingly rare, in most cases you will have to sort thru thousands of cones and you will find maybe 8 to 9 that make this size and reach the ground undamaged. I sort through many many cones to find these in good shape and they are very limited. Condition is New. Shipped with USPS First Class. Packed with care and lots of bubble wrap These cones are never taken off trees, only fallen cones on the forest floor are used. If cared for and kept inside (free from moisture and or animal damage) the cones should last well over 10 years without much degradation.
