Description: Two Original Harper’s Weekly vintage (original, not modern reproductions) woodcut engravings – two different prints from a scrapbook, one pasted on each side. These are the desirable double-page illustrations, issued folded, but because these were mounted into a scrapbook nearly 150 years ago, the folds have flattened and are almost invisible. In addition, because of the mounting and storage, the prints are vivid with no age toning. Images shown with this listing: The first is a collage of both prints; the second and third are from a large scanner bed that doesn’t quite show the prints’ full size, but does best show the engraved details and the age tone. The last two images are photographs, although I am not very good with the camera, these images do show all the edges. If desired, I’m sure there is a way to remove these pages (but you may frame one as-is); I would recommend consulting with a paper conservator.1) “The 'Black Watch' in Action -- Fighting the Forest of Ashantee" Illustration by L. Desanges, published 1874. Size 13 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches. Condition: no folds or foxing, retains the sub-title below.2) A Map of Africa. Published in ?. Size 14 x 19 1/2 inches. Condition: some loss of print, chipping and some short tears. As-is. I have other double-page Harper’s Weekly wood engravings listed from the same scrapbook; combine orders and save on shipping. Questions always welcome.
