Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous 19th Century English majolica dessert stand or low compote with molded water lily design signed by Joseph Holdcroft, c. 1880. The top of the piece is decorated with a ring of large molded water lily flowers and lily pads around the sides with a vivid cobalt blue center. The exterior of the plate has a mottled dark green and brown finish that covers the back of the plate and the low compote base. The stand is marked with the incised trademark of Joseph Holdcroft who was one of the premier majolica producers of this period. Measures 2" high and 9 1/2" in diameter. Weighs 1 pound. This nice dessert stand is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. There are some paint skips around the foot ring that appear to be rubbing although there is glaze present so this may simply be production flaws - at any rate it is very, very minor and does not detract from the beauty of this great piece.
