1997 GT Zaskar LE Custom Painted Vintage Lightweight Solo Jazz Mountain Bike

Description: I am not in a rush to sell this bike, but I do not ride it nearly as much as I should. I really like the way it looks, but it has some kinks that need worked out, and I have many other bikes I can ride, so this one doesn't get ridden. I would like to make room for more projects, but I have invested an insurmountable amount of time in this build and cannot let it go for nothing. Upon seeing this bike, people have often asked me to paint more bikes, or to paint theirs, but I can't, because painting is hard and it takes a lot of time. I am just a nerd, not a painter. I greatly admire those who have the patience and skill to be a painter. The paint job for this bike was inspired both by the GT "Team Scream" theme of the 1990s, as well as "Jazz," the familiar paper cup squiggle that was designed by Gina Ekiss in 1994 who worked for Solo. Starting with a well-loved but still intact anodized blue 1997 GT Zaskar LE frame, I stripped it down to bare metal, prepped the surface, and applied spray.bike paint using many techniques that I had seen being used with this paint. I primed the frame, applied the yellow, then used a dish sponge to feather the edges of the blue paint. I used a foam brush for the teal squiggle and then a plastic syringe to apply the pink. This took a lot of practice. I then put latex gloves on my hands and sprayed them with black and white paint, flinging the paint at the frame with my fingers to produce the speckled effect. Lastly, the whole frame was covered in spray.bike's clear coat. Feel free to have some fun and use this information as you please ... I am not responsible for the result. Build:- 1997 GT Zaskar LE, 21.5" c-c, 16" C-T- 1990s Mavic Crossmax ceramic-coated wheels. The rear wheel needs to be trued, and needs new bearings. The wheels are used and I think the ceramic coat is basically worn completely off. They are very light, and in my opinion, worth overhauling. I may take care of the work needed as time goes on, and asking price will change as a result. - Bucklos 170mm square taper crankset and 38 tooth chainring, with Shimano UN72 sealed cartridge bottom bracket, new as of 2022.- Microshift Acolyte 8 speed derailleur and shifter, non-clutched, new as of 2022- KMC X8 chain, new as of 2022- 11-40 tooth 8 speed cassette new as of 2022, generic brand. It rides and shifts great, but I'm unsure of long-term durability. I may upgrade this later and the price will change to reflect.- Scott AT-2 handlebars. They appeared to be NOS as of 2022 when I purchased and installed them, and they are very comfortable. - Shimano pedals, purchased new in 2019 and used very sparingly until they were installed here in 2022, still used sparingly.- Uno 180mm purple 15 degree 1-1/8" threaded quill stem, new as of 2022.- Schwalbe Billy Bonkers tires, new as of 2022. - 1992 Paramount Series 90 fork, purchased as New Old Stock from Kraynick's Bike Shop and installed in 2022. The finish is unbelievable. It is a pearly purple that turns blue in harsh light. I would buy another fork like this in a heartbeat.- FSA Orbit threaded 1-1/8" red headset, new as of 2022.- WTB Speed V Saddle, very cleary very used and purchased in 2022.- Avid Speed Dial 7 brake levers, purchased new in 2020 and installed in 2022. - Kore 27.2mm seat post that came originally on the 1998 Zaskar that I ride a lot more. - NOS Paramount oversize brake cables from the 1980s-90s, from Kraynick's bike Shop, installed 2022. - The Shimano XTR V brakes in the photos have worn-out bushings, and coupled with the ceramic-compatible Kool Stop brake pads and the worn-out ceramic on the wheels, they tend to scream when brakes are applied. So far, the rear brake has been replaced with a normal Shimano Acera v-brake without the parallel linkage, and the front will likely follow. The entire bike as pictured weighs 23 lbs. The listing includes two Watrbodl Jazz-themed water bottles, which will be included in updated photos. I can throw in the XTR brakes if there is interest in overhauling them, as well as the GT team jersey. I may be reluctant to part out the bike or sell just the frame and fork, but I could be convinced. Willing to negotiate on price and, for example, remove the saddle or some other personal/personalized parts if you don't want them with the deal. If you are interested at all and have a proposal in mind, let me know; worst I can say is no. Willing to ship or meet up locally.
