Description: Cold Steel made these in 1995 for the blackpowder/buckskinner market. They were inspired by the trade knives of the days of the fur trade. This is a simple, thin, sharp, pointy knife with a 7" Carbon V blade. Carbon V was a trade name for the now defunct Sharon Steel's 0170-6 steel. This is an improved 1095. In my experience it's a step up from 1095, just a bit less than O1 in performance. It's very nice, and takes a fine edge. I have used one of these daily since 1995, and besides being well stained from decades of use, it still takes a razor edge. This one has some patina from use, but has a couple of lifetimes wear left in it. The only reason they quit making them is that it was too expensive to grind these down so thin. They attempted to revive this pattern in 1.4116 stainless, but nothing beats the original.
