Description: DESCRIPTION 1973 Canada RCMP 100th Anniversary Silver Dollar KM# 83 3087 Up for sale is a silver Canadian dollar coin struck to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The organization was originally conceived as the North-West Mounted Police and had jurisdiction across the North West territories of Alberta and Saskatchewan. It was renamed the Royal North-West Mounted Policemen in 1904 after the 'royal' title was bestowed by King Edward VII after many men volunteered to fight in the Second Boer War. Many more volunteered for military survice again during World War I. In 1920, the RNWMP was merged with the Dominion Police to form the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The reverse of this coin displays the iconic image of an RCMP officer on horseback. The mountie is dressed in the unmistakable red prairie-style tunic and Stetson hat. This coin comes in its original packaging from the Royal Canadian Mint: encapsulated in a plastic case and displayed in a black leatherette clam style case, emblazoned with the Canadian Coat-of-Arms.
