Description: 1969 JAMAICA 10 CENT COIN - FIRST INDEPENDENT COINAGE A nice condition, circulated 1969 cupro-nickel 10 cent coin from the island of Jamaica. Although Jamaica became independent from Great Britain in 1962, the island nation did not issue its own currency until 1969. This coin is the first 10c issued by Jamaica. The obverse features the national tree (lignum vitae) with butterflies, and the reverse features the coat of arms with Arawaks, pineapples, and the national motto “Out of Many, One People”.
