Description: This listing is for a 1968 medal from the Jewish Chautauqua Society celebrating their 75th anniversary at a biennial convention in New Orleans held with the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods. This medal measures 1 1/2" across and weighs 20 grams. There are no markings to help distinguish the type of metal but perhaps a type of white metal or silver plate. The Jewish Chautauqua Society was the interfaith education program of the Men of Reform Judaism (MRJ), whose independent existence ceased in 2015 when it was merged into the Union for Reform Judaism. It was founded in 1893 by its chancellor, Henry Berkowitz of Philadelphia, and modeled on the mother Chautauqua of New York. Obverse: Pictures 2 hands holding a torch with the Hebrew phrase "יהי אור" over the flame which means "Let there be light". It is captioned "JEWISH CHAUTAUQUA SOCIETY 75TH ANNIVERSARY 1893-1968" Reverse: Pictures a couple musical instruments and iconic scenes from New Orleans. It is captioned "XXII BIENNIAL CONVENTION N.F.T.B. NOV. 7-10 NEW ORLEANS 250TH ANNIVERSARY 1718-1968". In very small letters it is marked "W. GERMANY". The initials "N.F.T.B." stands for National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods. It is in very good condition with some light discoloration. Please see the photos for more details. Money-back guarantee.
