Mustang is by far the most suc- cessful new car ever introduced, and it is this success that is perhaps its most remarkable aspect. Ninety- two days after its introduction on April 17, 1964, 100,000 Mustangs had been sold. By the end of its first year, the Mustang's sales total passed 417,000 cars, and at this point it took the title of the world's most successful new car from its stablemate, the Falcon. Shortly before its second birthday in 1966, the Mustang's sales total reached one million.
