New slab Nice centering Corners rate a nine Vibrant coloring Extremely clean back Wagner played 12 years in the majors after signing with the Giants in ‘54. He had incredible numbers in the minors batting .350 with 51 home runs and 166 RBIs in ‘56, but was drafted into the military the following year. The Giants looked to Wagner with expectations he never had a chance to fully develop in the short time he played with the Giants, though he was always exciting at the plate. But the Giants didn’t stay with him and delivered Wagner to the Cardinals for Don Blasingame. But the Cardinals didn’t keep him more than a year and let him go as well. It wasn’t until Wagner ended up in LA with the Angels that he could show what he could do when inserted into the line-up everyday. In ‘61, Wagner hit .280 with 28 home runs for the Angels in his first full year in the majors. In ‘62, he hit .268 with 37 home runs. In ‘63, he hit .291 with 26 home runs. After three years with Angels, two as an All Star, the Angels inexplicably traded Wagner for Barry Latman and Joe Adcock, who was in the twilight of his career. In Cleveland, Wagner continued to hit with power for several years and ultimately left baseball in ‘71, finishing with a .272 lifetime batting average and slamming 211 home runs.
