The U. S. Treasury Department believed that mint marks encouraged collecting and this was leading to a shortage of coins. The decision to stop using mint marks affected all coins minted for circulation as well as the annual sets that were produced. This is a business strike coin produced for circulation. It has a brilliant, red surface on both obverse and reverse sides with lots of luster and is displayed in a holder with the upgraded "brown" label. The coin pictured is the one being offered. Thank you for looking.
