A COMPANION TO THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES was written by a Jesuit novice who was making the Spiritual Exercises in full (the thirty day "Long Retreat") as part of the exercise to search direction before choosing a vocation in the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order). He followed Ignatius' method of meditation by immersing himself into Ignatius' Exercises. The result is a compelling reflection on one man's spiritual examination, and in many ways is a valuable resource for one's own spiritual examination.
