Description: Up for sale, a 1962 Gretsch Jet Firebird double cut model 6131, outfitted with a vintage Bigsby palm pedal G/B bender. This 6131 has been augmented with a streamlined control configuration and a pair of vintage DeArmond DynaSonic pickups, retaining the original Firebird Red gloss nitro lacquer finish. The tonewood complement comprises an arched maple top, chambered mahogany body, mahogany neck, and bound ebony fingerboard. The DynaSonics place this 6131 sonically more in-line with mid-50s Gretsch spec, and there's a bell-like twang and roundness to single notes played on the bridge pickup, while the neck position single coil has quite a bit of woof and thickness. This 6131 is lightweight at 7lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. Neck Specs: -Wood: Mahogany -Shape: Slender C at nut, much fuller in upper registers, measuring .785” 1st fret, .985” 12th fret -Fretboard: Bound ebony, neo-classical “thumbnail” inlay, 12" radius -Frets: Medium jumbo (refret), no wear -Scale Length: 24.6” -Nut: 1 5/8”, bone -Headstock: T-roof inlay -Tuners: Waverly, open-gear Body Specs: -Wood: Maple top, chambered mahogany body -Pickups: DeArmond DynaSonic x2 (vintage & replaced), Rowe Industries etched baseplates -Harness: Modern CTS pots, vintage Sprague tone cap -Controls: Volume, Tone, Three-way pickup selector -Hardware: Space Control bridge, Bigsby palm pedal G/B benders, “G” pointer knobs (one original, one aged replacement) -Plastics: Original plexi pickguard -Serialization: Label on inside of control cavity cover dates to '62 The gloss Firebird Red nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, and there is vertical lacquer checking across the body. Cosmetic wear includes a couple small holes (beneath the bridge) where a previous bridge was pinned, wear through to the mahogany along the lower bout perimeter, and some buckle rash and dings from honest use. The neck profile retains its smooth nitro gloss, with limited palm wear along the shoulders and a couple shallow nicks along the profile length. A modern Gretsch black tolex hardshell case is included.
