Description: 1961 University of Iowa Annual The Hawkeye in top condition with great photographs and text showing the students, faculty, activities, sports, graphics, literature, pictures of the school and surrounding, candids, fraternities and sororities. Seniors each get individual photos with list of clubs and accomplishments. Many photos of football, hockey, and basketball; also pictures of track, gymnastics, wrestling, tennis, golf, and skiing. The Basketball section includes 7 pictures of senior All Big Ten star Don Nelson. Don Nelson, after starring for the Iowa Hawkeyes, went on to win be a key factor in two generations of Boston Celtics champions, winning with both the Bill Russell '60s as well as the John Havlicek '70s. He played under Red Auerbach, Bill Russell, and Tom Heinson, before becoming a great coach himself, especially with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Run DMC Warriors, the Dirk Nowitzi Dallas Mavericks, and now again teh Golden State Warriors. In 1961, the Hawkeyes went 18-6 and was ranked 8th nationwide. This yearbook also has a great amount amount of club and sport pictures and a great amount of fun candids. There are photos reflecting the campus civil rights concerns, and there are pictures of visiting performers such as jazz giant Count Basie, Comedian Bob Newhart, previously Eisenhower Vice President Richard Nixon, poet Carl Sandberg, Pianist Victor Borge, and others. Lots of guitars, homecoming scenes, old cars, and clothes styles of the middle '60s. Fraternities and sorority members are pictured individually and in groups. Fraternities and Sororities include: Alpha Phi, Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Delta Tau Delta, Delta Upsilon, Delta Zeta, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Theta Chi. Excellent condition with tight binding and text and clean pages, with no must or mildew or missing pieces. Uncommonly tip top shape. A peach!
