1961-1962 Los Angeles Lakers Detroit Pistons Home Opener Program

Description: This is for an original program from the October 27 1961 home opener for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Detroit Pistons which was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles California. This game would be a walk in the park for the Lakers as Elgin Baylor would score 27 Points with 13 rebounds and Jerry West would score 24 with 10 rebounds in a 128-118 victory. The Lakers would rest most of their starters in the fourth quarter as their defense would hold the Pistons to a .311% field goal percentage with George Lee and Gene Shue leading the Pistons with 22 points each. The Lakers would go on to win the NBA Western Division and defeat the Pistons in the division finals but would lose in seven games to the Celtics in the NBA finals, something that would become all to familiar for the Lakers.
