So, perhaps this hasn't surfaced in your neck-of-the-woods. That election pitted democrats John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson against republicans Richard M. Nixon and Henry C. Lodge. When the results came in it was so close that it was basically a tie, with JFK at 49.72% to Nixon's 49.55%. Even with all the voting irregularities surrounding the totals across the country, Nixon decided not to challenge the election and conceded the following afternoon.
