It connected at Richmond with the Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad (RF&P), which pulled ACL passenger trains to/from Washington, DC; at Washington the trains connected with northeastern lines, where its primary connection was the Pennsylvania Railroad into New York and New England. The ACL and its connecting lines actively competed with the Seaboard Air Line/Baltimore & Ohio partnership to run some of the most famous "Florida" trains. Included in this roster were such "named" ACL trains as the East Coast Champion, West Coast Champion, Dixie Flyer, Gulf Coast Special, the Palmetto, and the Everglades.
