Description: March 30, 1951, edition of "The Southwestern," a Joplin, Missouri newspaper that features a front-page, three-column feature article on its minor league baseball hero and soon to be MLB superstar, Mickey Mantle. The New York Yankees would purchase Mantle's contract about two weeks later on April 15, 1951.The condition is quite nice and features a picture of Mantle from his previous season with the Joplin Miners. There are only four total pages, but it is complete. Acquired from the family of Mickey Mantle. This is quite likely one of the only remaining examples of this historically significant newspaper.
