Description: Now very hard to find, complete, 75 year old number of Poetry (Chicago) for November 1947 is in good condition. Just a single Library blind stamp ("Fargo") to the front wrapper. Text is nice and clean. Edited at this date by the trio of George Dillon, Marion Strobel and John Frederick Nims. See photo #2 for complete contents. Includes two pages of photos, including a page of T.S. Eliot. See photo #3 & #4. 55 pages. Some highlights I find include: The 33 year old poet William E. Stafford contributes four new poems, his first contributions to the monthly. He wouldn't publish a book collection of his poems until the 1960s. A National Book Award Winner, he was to become America's Poet Laureate (Consultant in Poetry to Congress) in 1970. Alfred C. Ames reviews the notable critic Northrup Frye's early study (his first book) of William Blake, Fearful Symmetry. F.C. Golfing reviews Howard Nemerov's first book, The Image and the Law. Robert Liddell Lowe reviews poet and editor Reed Whittemore's first book, Heroes and Heroines. William Elton pens a longer essay in review of W.H. Auden's The Age of Anxiety. Other poems by John Malcolm Brinnin, Louis Kent, Barbara Moore, Arthur Gregor, etc.
