Description: 1944 Vintage Wire Press Photo by ASSOCIATED PRESS.Lieutenant Nathan G. Gordon, USN, who landed his plane in the waters of Kavieng Harbor New Ireland, to rescue a total of fifteen, US Airmen who were shot out of the air when we raided the Japanese Base, leaving the town a mass of flames and sinking four ships in the harbor. The rescues were conducted under fire from the shore batteries. Photo is Dated: 1944. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC PHOTO, NOT A COPY OR SCANS. Photo Measures Approximately: 4.5 x .7.5 Inches.
