Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1943 WORLD WAR II Philippines RIZAL "TEN PESO NOTE" Japanese OCCUPATION CURRENCY Description This is a World War II veteran "Ten Pesos" note that was issued in 1943 by the Japanese for the occupied Philippine Islands. The Japanese bombed the Philippines the same day they bombed Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1942, "The day that will live in infamy". They landed troops in the Philippines on December 10. Manila was taken January 2, Bataan fell April 9, and finally Corregidor on May 6, forcing MacArthur's famous "I Shall Return" statement when he left. He did return, Japan was evicted and defeated and these notes soon became worthless. "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (General Issues 1368-1960) by Albert Pick. #111a. Face: {23} • 0574746 • {In red, plate numbers 1-58 used} • Black on pale green underprint. • Rizal Monument at right. • Watermark: Banana Tree. The Japanese "liberated" the Philippines and set up a puppet government. They used the Rizal Monument on the notes because José Rizal had been a Philippine patriot during the Spanish period, and they wanted to announce the new "freedom". Having one of these could get you shot. The guerrillas were still fighting in the interior of the islands and one of these in your pocket would make you a collaborator. On the other hand, the guerrillas issued their own currency and the Japanese carried guns too. They were both "forced" issues. Back: Green on yellow underprint. The Note: A veteran who served but survived. It has been folded and used, but it has no edge or body tears and no pinholes. A piece of quickly fading World War II history. The note will be sent in a new currency holder that protects it. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself. Remember, FREE SHIPPING!
