Commander Paul Gillespie Swears in Navy Sailors, New Orleans. Commander Paul E. Gillespie, commanding officer of the United States Naval Air Station on the lakefront, Wednesday swore in five sailors as ensigns in the United States Naval Reserve. The five who received commissions were, from the left: Boyd A. Hingle, storekeeper, third class, 2634 D'Abadie street; Emmette Reeks, seaman first class, 4418 Eve street; Perry Broom, specialist second class, Shreveport; Wilbur Daspit, pharmacist's mate second class, Natchitoches, and William Anderson, seaman first class, of Bondurant, Iowa. They will leave New Orleans soon for special training in New York city before being assigned to duties as deck officers. Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches. Photo is dated 05-06-1943.
