Description: Up for auction is a beautiful censored cover with letter contents from Baruch Goldberg in Vienna, Germany to Lilly Bendler in New York NY USA. In excellent condition. Priced to sell. Postmarked December 22, 1939. The sender is Jewish and under the Nuremburg laws was forced to add "Israel" to his name but because his name was obviously Jewish he was exempt from the "Israel" requirement. Many Jews attempting to flee the Nazi regime were writing friends and relatives in the USA in a futile attempt to find refuge here. Rare Judaica postal history cover. According to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee website, a Charlotte Bendler deposited money for Baruch Goldberg in Vienna to presumably emigrate to the USA. Though I find no record that he actually made it. Very scarce Holocaust Judaica item to have a lengthy letter from a Jew in Germany at this time period. I don't read German. Shipping will be a flat $3.00 within the continental U.S. for USPS mail. Overseas airmail shipping is $14.00, includes registered mail shipping. Questions?
