1936 Gibson L-C Century of Progress Acoustic Guitar w/ Case

Description: Travel back in time with this classic old guitar. Made by Gibson at its old Kalamazoo, Michigan factory, it's a Gibson LC Century of Progress acoustic guitar. The factory order number is ink-stamped on the inside neck heel. It's x92B. The B suffix indicates it's from 1936. The first digit is indecipherable. I looked up 1936 in Spann's Guide. 492B was a 1936 L-C. That is the only 1936 model to end in x92B. The prior owner bought it used in 1937. He went on to play guitar in the Calvarymen bluegrass gospel group. This was his prized guitar. It's a project. The top has been refinished from sunburst to natural. Two of the tuners and their bushings are vintage replacements. A pickup (from an old Gibson lap steel guitar, I think) has been put on it. The 1/8" screws holding the pickup to the soundhole have created chips around the soundhole edges, under the pickup. The Bakelite pickup surround has two cracks in it. The pickup does work. The volume knob is a bit staticky, but the tone knob doesn't do much, if anything. The saddle has been shaved just about all the way down. There is a series of cracks on the back of the neck in the volute area. I suspect they are stress cracks from an overtightened truss rod nut. I have loosened the truss rod nut so it's completely slack now. I don't know. I haven't messed with the cracks. They're beyond my meager luthier skills. There are some dark marks around the edge of bridge. The body is in good shape structurally and functionally. No wood cracks or anything like that. As it is, with the truss rod nut loosened, the 12th fret action is between 4/32" and 5/32". With the saddle as low as it is, I suspect the guitar may have a neck reset in its future. I assume the case is original. The case is quite worn and tattered, but still works. Some of the case burlap underlayment has been colored black on the edges for cosmetic reasons. The case handle and latches all work. The hinges have been replaced with string, so the lid does open and close, but isn't as strong as it was with the original metal hinges. The inside case accessory pocket flap lid is missing. Who's going to bring this sweet old guitar back to full musical life? Questions? It will be well packed with plenty of new 1/2" bubble wrap and shipped in a new 46"x19"x7" stout cardboard instrument box. It will be shipped signature required, so please have someone available at the shipping address when it arrives. Please check out our eBay store, Time Travel Music, for more cool vintage stuff, including a bunch of vintage guitars (and a few ukuleles, banjos, fiddles, mandolins and amps, as well as fiddles, brass, woodwind, and various oddball musical instruments and old instrument brochures & catalogs).
