Description: I have here for sale a beautifully presented slipcased book entitled THE FOUR GOSPELS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST according to the authorized version of King James I. With gorgeous b/w illustrations by Eric Gill the renowned sculptor, letter cutter, typeface designer, and printmaker. It was first printed and published by the Golden Cockerel Press in 1931. This limited edition was issued in 2007 by the Folio Society, of just 2750 printed, this being number 172. In addition to the main volume, there is a second slim volume entitled THE FOUR GOSPELS Eric Gill and the Golden Cockerel Type by John Dreyfus preceded by a Personal Reminiscence by Robert Gibbings, Proprietor of the Golden Cockerel Press 1924-1933, published by the Folio Society in 2007. This book gives the background and collaboration between Gill and the Golden Cockerel Press from the mid-20s to the mid-30s. The main book is beautifully bound by Lachenmaier in full black goatskin leather with Fabriano Tiziano endleaves. Gilt illustrations to the front board and gilt lettering to the spine. Gilt page edges and black silk bookmark. Boards and pages are in mint condition. The smaller book is bound in quarter black cloth on grey hardboards. White title label to the front board. Also in mint condition. Both housed in the black clamshell box lined in grey. Gilt title lettering to the spine. Box is in very good condition, just a couple of marks. Box measures 35 cmx 26 cm. The Four Gospels 269 pages, 34 cm x 24 cm, small volume 27 pages, 34 cm x 23 cm.We have over 2000 items in our Ebay shop on a range of subjects, so please feel free to have a browse and see if anything else takes your fancy.
