Description: RARE HISTORIC DOG BREED ART PRINT, DOGS OF THE HUNT, LES CHIENS DE CHASSE, FRANCE, 1930s, Watercolor Painting by Francois Castellan. This Auction is for the Breed: PETIT / GRAND BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN HOUND. Condition: Excellent - minor wear from previous handling in some cases. In most cases, the print picture is the print you're BUYING!! Border: Line border is not strong all the way around the image, but can easily be enhanced with a fine line marker. This is an original page of a book of dogs of the hunt (including sight hounds, scent hounds, pointers, retrievers, spaniels, and terriers) published in France. Highly collectible and rarely found, the book this print is from is extremely rare, and can rarely be found, selling for HUNDREDS of dollars, currently. Please bookmark this auction, there is only ONE of each of these original prints available at this time! From one of numerous editions beginning in the 1930s, the print for sale in this auction is from a 1965 edition (the artwork was not updated in subsequent printings), printed on heavy clay coated white paper, with a thin black border around the art image. Note that in some cases, the black border is incomplete, and on my own copies a thin black marker was used to even up the black border, and the prints were then double matted and framed. I left about .25" of the white background showing, inner double matt is gold, and outer double matt is royal blue or kelly green, framed in gold and these make stunning display pieces or gifts. In one part of my house, I have a suite of five of these prints together, and in another part of the house, two more in matching matts and frames - they will make a wonderful addition to your collection, and there are so many strange and beautiful breeds to choose from - PLEASE check my other auctions! The format of the book was oblong, 11.5" long x 7.5" high is the sheet size, and there are multiple staple holes on the left (binding) edge. The image is basically centered on each page, and the image size is 7.25" long x 4.5" high on the white sheet, and there is a number centered above the image, and the name of the breed centered below the image, with approximately .5" of clearance for matting and/or framing. Accompanying each print is the printed vellum page that goes along with each print, describing particulars and details about the breed of dog (possibly the breed standard at that time), note that all copy is written in French.
