Vincent et Cie (Paris), two 9 3/8 x 13 1/8 inches tall pale yellow cloth-covered boards portfolios with gray cloth spine and cloth ties, with the contents (8 page preface by Georges Gromort in loose gatherings + 8 pencil drawings by Augustin Bernard and 56 photographic plates printed on heavy stock), all loose as issued. Collates complete. Slight soiling and moderate rubbing and edgewear to portfolio covers. Black cloth tape to both worn gray cloth spines. Third series portfolio cover lacks top cloth tie in front. Prior owner name stamps to front covers and half title pages of each volume. Name stamp of prior owner J.W.C. Corbusier on the verso of all plates. On the front and rear pastedowns, small plates from now-defunct architecture bookstores in Los Angeles and Cleveland, Ohio. otherwise, apart from minor age toning and a bit of edge-chipping to the textual portions of each volume, very good copies - clean and unmarked, with bright and vivid helio-photoplates. Incredible images of urban and rural architecture of Rouen, Caen, Lisieux, Chartres, Canapville, Coupesarte and elsewhere in the Normandy region of northwestern France. A good record of what these places looked like before the calamities of World War II, and a treasure trove for the student of architectuire interested in half-timber work on structures in which external and internal walls are constructed of timber frames and the spaces between the structural members are filled with such materials as brick, plaster, or wattle and daub.
