Description: This scarce card was issued by the ROYAL BAKERY Company one card was being given away as a premium with each loaf of there brand of Betsy Ross Bread. The series features captioned images of children acting out Nursery Rhyme scenes. This particular card features SING A SONG OF SIXPENCE. The original art was done by C.M. Burd. Burd is a well know American illustrator who’s art appeared in many advertising images (including several other Bread and Bakery Card series issues), puzzles, blotters, and many early American Magazine covers (including several for Harpers Weekly in the 1910 era). She is best know for her images of Children (very Kewpie Doll / Cambels Kid looking) and has also done Numerous Children’s books illustrations throughout the 1920’s. Her work is often grouped in with and compared to that of Rose O'Neill who is best know for her Kewpie Doll Characters and illustrations and Grace Wiederseim best know for her Campbell Kids Characters. The card is recorded in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue as series D137. The card measures 5 ½ inches by, 3 ½ inches approximately. The card does have some corner wear/bends, I think it still displays well. I have scanned the card both front and back, fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. This is a scarce card that has huge cross over collect-ability. Coveted by both Non-Sports Card collectors and those interested in early American Illustrators. I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Cigarettes , Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds, Circus themes and many more.
