Description: 1918 See Him Through National Catholic War Council Poster Burton Rice WWI Linen Date: 1918 Artist: Rice, Burton Size (inches): 30” x 20" Size (cm): 76.2 x 50.8 Condition: B+ Linen backed: Yes This vintage original poster was created by the artist Burton Rice for the National Catholic War Council, Knights of Columbus and the United War Work Campaign during WWI. The United War Work Campaign was organized by several non-governmental organizations to raise money for programs supporting American soldiers during WWI. The National Catholic War Council along with the American Library Association, the Jewish Welfare Board and other charitable organizations helped to organize and promote the 1918 UWW campaign. For this poster Rice renders an image of an older man in a Knights of Columbus uniform pointing resolutely and a younger man in an American Army doughboy unform. The doughboy is the last man seen in a long line of soldiers marching toward the warfront represented by billowy smoke of explosions on the horizon. Text on the poster reads See Him Through - Help Us To Help The Boys - National Catholic War Council, Knights of Columbus. Established in 1917 and led by Paulist Father John J. Burke the National Catholic War Council helped coordinate Catholic activities during WWI and evolved into the National Catholic Welfare Conference, the forerunner of today’s U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. This original antique WWI poster has been professionally linen backed with expert repair to pinholes on the corners and mitigation to small creases and other minor imperfections. The colors remain strong and the poster displays very well. Overall condition is very good.
